On April 14th, a Sino foreign cultural exchange event with the theme of "From Yunnan to the World, Cultural Integration in a Cup of Coffee" was held at Beijing Foreign Studies University, using coffee as a medium to tell the story of China and promote mutual understanding between Chinese and foreign people. This event is jointly organized by China Daily Culture Channel, Pu'er Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, Pu'er Municipal People's Government, and the School of International Journalism and Communication at Beijing Foreign Studies University.
Zhu Baoxia, Vice President of China Daily, Feng Feng, Standing Committee Member and Deputy Mayor of Pu'er City, Yuan Jun, Director of the Academic Committee of Beijing Foreign Studies University, and Chinese and foreign guests attended the event.
At the event, Chinese and foreign guests tasted coffee from Yunnan, as well as countries and regions such as Greece, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Nicaragua, and Vietnam, telling the touching story of Yunnan coffee going global and connecting the world. They talked about the media role of coffee as a multicultural symbol in the exchange and mutual learning of different civilizations.
Erik Nilsson, an American journalist for China Daily and recipient of the Chinese Government Friendship Award, stated that China's coffee culture continues to iterate and upgrade, with innovative vitality constantly bursting forth. Nowadays, this wave of coffee is surging and spreading to every corner of the world. These coffee beans are the seeds of global communication. The term 'blending' has long gone beyond the scope of coffee powder and extended to the integration of different civilizations; And cups of coffee are crossing national borders, connecting people from all over the world.
Yang Hongjian, the manager of Pu'er Wild Duck Pond Valley Coffee Plantation, stated that practicing biodiversity conservation, protecting green mountains and rivers, and turning them into "golden mountains and silver mountains" are the unwavering ideals of the "second and third generations of coffee lovers". By creating projects such as coffee study tours, parent-child experiences, and coffee volunteers, they have embarked on a sustainable "coffee+" path that combines agriculture, culture, and tourism, making young contributions to promoting Chinese coffee culture and facilitating exchanges between Chinese coffee and the world.
He Weibiao, Deputy General Manager of Vietnam Zhongyuan Legendary Coffee Group in Greater China, revealed that they plan to purchase premium coffee beans from Yunnan and deeply cooperate with Yunnan Coffee through their World Coffee Museum in Vietnam and chain coffee shops worldwide, bringing Yunnan's good coffee into this museum and becoming a prominent figure in the history of world coffee.
Hendy Yuniarto, an Indonesian teacher from the Asian College of Beijing International Studies University, pointed out that China's coffee culture has been deeply localized, and coffee products have been constantly innovating, such as black tea lattes, Longjing lattes and Pu'er coffees that combine coffee and tea, flavored lattes made with coconut milk, fruity American style blended with orange juice, and even soy sauce flavor added with Baijiu. Various innovative coffee drinks have brought consumers a richer and more diverse coffee experience.
The wife of the Greek Ambassador to China, Xu Li, stated that the coffee industry in China has developed rapidly. From the 1990s when coffee was still exclusive to star rated hotels, to today when coffee shops can be seen everywhere in first and second tier cities; From relying more on imported coffee to now being well-known for Yunnan's self-produced coffee; From a single international coffee chain to numerous domestic brand chains and niche boutique coffee shops spread across the country, with a wide variety of products, a broad audience, and a development speed far exceeding expectations.
Tu Weicheng, CEO of Mingqian Coffee, told the story of Mingqian Coffee coming to Lancang to help the local coffee industry develop under the promotion of the Shanghai Yunnan East West Cooperation Project. He also stated that the development of Yunnan's coffee industry is not only the upgrading of coffee beans, but also the improvement of the quality of life of countless villagers, which has become a vivid portrayal of rural revitalization.
At the event, Pu'er City held a special promotion event called "Exclusive Pu'er Fragrance Meets Beijing", showcasing Pu'er's rich cultural and tourism resources and touching coffee stories to the guests on site. On that day, China Daily Cultural and Creative and Mingqian Coffee also released a joint product.
At the same time as the event, a small classroom called "I Will Be a Coffee Maker for a Day at Beijing Foreign Studies University" was opened, where professional baristas taught hands-on coffee making techniques and systematically explained coffee culture knowledge. Teachers, students, and guests from Beijing Foreign Studies University were able to experience the joy of making coffee by hand and feel the craftsmanship of coffee making.
At the same time as the event, a Pu'er themed photo exhibition and a tea caf é lounge will be held to create an immersive Pu'er cultural experience space. In a leisurely atmosphere, one can immerse themselves in the unique charm of Pu'er's "slow time" and the coexistence of tea and caf é.
It is reported that Pu'er is the core coffee producing area with the largest planting area and highest output in China. It is also the main raw material producing area for coffee giants such as Nestle, Starbucks, and Luckin Coffee in China. The current coffee planting area is 679000 mu, and the annual output is nearly 60000 tons.
The "Cultural Integration in a Cup of Coffee from Yunnan to the World" exchange event was held at Beijing Foreign Studies University.
